Maserati Advances Its Electrification Strategy with Upcoming EV Models

Maserati, the renowned Italian luxury car manufacturer, recently provided further insights into its ambitious electric vehicle (EV) strategy, confirming reports about the revised launch timeline for the much-anticipated Quattroporte Folgore. The company has officially announced that the electric iteration of its classic sedan is slated for a 2028 release, marking a significant step in its electrification journey.

Before the debut of the Quattroporte Folgore, Maserati is set to launch several other battery-powered models, showcasing the brand’s commitment to a sustainable and innovative future. The GranCabrio Folgore, an electrified version of the company’s celebrated convertible, is expected to be unveiled later this year, following closely on the heels of its internal combustion engine counterpart.

Maserati’s CEO, Davide Grasso, highlighted the company’s dedication to leading the change in electrification: “Driven by our Modena heart, we are going full throttle to lead change on electrification, with two of our iconic models already available for purchase in their 100 percent electric versions, and another on the way this year. We will offer our preferred customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure to a new era.”

In addition to the GranCabrio Folgore, Maserati’s electrification roadmap includes the release of a zero-emissions version of the MC20 in 2025. Following this, a large electric SUV, likely a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) variant of the Levante, is expected in 2027. Each of these models is proudly described by Maserati as 100 percent designed, developed, and manufactured in Italy, reflecting the brand’s commitment to maintaining its heritage of Italian craftsmanship and innovation.

The two electric products already available for purchase, as mentioned by Grasso, are the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore, both of which have been well-received in the European market. Under the umbrella of Stellantis, Maserati has positioned itself as the first Italian luxury brand to focus on developing and producing all-electric vehicles, demonstrating its leadership in the automotive industry’s transition to electrification.

Maserati’s electrification initiative aligns with the larger Stellantis “Dare Forward 2030” strategic plan, unveiled in March 2022. This strategy positions the luxury brand as a key player in the organization, ensuring that all new models from Maserati will feature electric powertrains, thus marrying luxury with sustainability.

While Maserati embarks on this exciting electrification journey, the company remains attentive to its workforce and the broader automotive industry’s challenges. The shift to electric vehicles represents a significant transformation, not only for Maserati but for the entire sector, as it moves towards a more sustainable and innovative future.

This professional take on Maserati’s EV strategy focuses on the brand’s commitment to electrification and innovation, highlighting upcoming models and the company’s role within the larger Stellantis strategy, while maintaining respect for the brand’s heritage and industry challenges.
