Autobu.eu Exclusive: Tesla’s “Highland” Model 3 Set for Sporty Evolution

The refreshed Tesla Model 3, nicknamed “Highland,” currently lacks a Performance trim, but recent developments suggest Tesla is gearing up for a sportier iteration of this electric saloon. A key indicator is a camouflaged, right-hand drive prototype spotted in San Francisco, featuring a notably aggressive front bumper. This design choice hints at future availability in right-hand drive markets like Australia and the UK.

Recent footage from San Francisco, shared by @klwtts on X, captures a glimpse of the anticipated Model 3 Performance variant. This prototype sports a distinct front bumper lip, differentiating it from the standard rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models of the updated Model 3.

The comparison between the regular Model 3 and this sportier version is striking. The spy photo from @klwtts reveals a pronounced lip at the bottom of the bumper, signaling a shift towards a more dynamic aesthetic.

While the exact name of the trim remains unconfirmed, speculation suggests “Performance,” “Sport,” or “Ludicrous” as potential tags. These names align with Tesla’s tradition of using unique labels inspired by the movie “Space Balls,” as envisioned by CEO Elon Musk.

This sportier Model 3 is expected to boast upgraded brakes and suspension, new wheels, reinforced seats, and more potent electric motors. Exact power details are unknown, but regulatory filings indicate that the base RWD Model 3 has a 260-bhp motor, while the Long Range AWD version adds a 183 bhp front motor, totaling 443 bhp. The sporty version could enhance power, or focus on superior handling and braking for an engaging driving experience.

In other Tesla news, the Model Y was Europe’s top-selling new car last year, and Tesla recently adjusted Model Y prices in Europe amid fluctuating demand. A notable Tesla Cybertruck-Porsche race was also recently cut short due to trailer tire issues.
